Army officer from Haryana dies of suspected heart attack while swimming in Belagavi

The officer was rushed to the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital by ambulance, but was declared dead en route.

Belagavi, 22 March


An Army officer died of a suspected heart attack while swimming at the Commando Wing campus in Nanawadi, Belagavi, officials said.


The incident occurred on Saturday evening when Lieutenant Amit Singh, a native of Haryana, was undergoing training at the MLIRC (Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre) Commando Wing. He reportedly suffered a severe cardiac arrest while swimming in the pool.


Belagavi police commissioner Bhushan Borase confirmed the incident, saying Singh had completed two laps before showing signs of exhaustion. 'During his third lap, he collapsed in the water. Lifeguard Pradeep Kumar immediately pulled him out and administered first aid, " the commissioner said.


He was rushed to the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) Hospital by ambulance, but was declared dead en route. 


Commissioner Borase said, adding that preliminary reports indicate death due to cardiac arrest. The case falls under the jurisdiction of Tilakwadi Police Station, Belagavi.
